Your Guide to Mary-Kate and Ashley Fan Sites
As much as I wish it were true, mkashley.com is not the only fan site out there dedicated to the Olsen Twins. In fact, there’s a whole lot. So, I present to you some of the more popular sites dedicated to all that is Olsen. To make this this, it had to be Olsen twin specific and has to be updated regularly and recently (there’s a surprising amount out there that haven’t been updated for years!)
This is Mary-Kate and Ashley’s official site. Which means they (supposedly) oversee all the features on it, and occasionally blog on it themselves. There is a blog by their “mystery blogger” that keeps you up to date on not only the happenings of MK and Ashley, but also new products — theirs and others they like — events and contests around the site. They also have merchandise and an advice column written by the lovely Jess. While this site has become much more usable over the past couple years, it still falls victim to the “kids want things that flash and move” mantra of the internet. (Not like THIS site, of course) However, it is updated a lot, has a great community base, lots of contests and information on anything and everything from fashion to saving the environment.
This site is one of the best Olsen sites out there. It is constantly updated with pictures of the girls, media like avatars, video stills and wallpapers, and magazine scans. However, the print is really, really, really, really small. It’s a really well organized site, whose archives go waaaaaaaaaay back. I should know — I go there all the time!
This site is a bit creepy (”Whoa, I feel top ten reasons why Ashley is hot coming on ;)” being an example) and it’s not very pretty– the brown and green clash and the ads are really tacky — but he gets a lot of interesting photographs and rare video clips of the girls. It also has a really active fan base and is snark-friendly!!
This is the best Mary-Kate and Ashley community in the livejournal world, with over 6000 members. The pictures aren’t updated too often, but it has a lot of banners and avatars and things you need to make your blog, forum signatures, myspace and livejournal Mary-Kate and Ashley-fantastic.
My first thought with site site was “what? MK and Ashley’s sister has a fan site for them? Weird!” But that just shows how silly I am. And how I know way too much about the girls. Their sister is named Lizzy, but Elizabeth is a very popular name. This is probably the most active Mary-Kate and Ashley community on-line, with lots of videos, pictures, mp3 files and forums to discuss it all in! It’s not the easiest on the eyes– lots of posters really like hot pink and all things that glitter! — but it’s a snark-free, friendly community with lots of archives.
Is a well organized archive of all things Mary-Kate and Ashley. It’s a part of the larger mka-fan community, which is a bit messier to navigate your way through, but is perhaps your best bet for video stills from almost everything MK and Ashley have been in. Go here mostly for the archived magazine articles and video stills.
This is another active Olsen twin forum. It’s a bit easier to navigate than Lizzy’s, but has less archives. It is also extremely pink, but there’s less glitter!
Again, pink. Again, really small type. Again, a great archive of photos and information on the girls. It is updated frequently, and has a lot of information, like television episode synopses and movie reviews. For example, in episode 69 of Full House
Jesse’s grandparents, Gina and Iorgos “Papouli” Katsopolis arrive for a visit from Greece, and they are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their wedding. Gina and Papouli have brought three extra guests with them — Melina, a young cousin who looks like Michelle, Silvio, a guy over D.J.’s age who sweeps D.J. off her feet, and Elena, one of Jesse’s former girlfriends. Elena makes Becky jealous, especially when Elena tells Jesse that Elena and Jesse are still married after getting married in a so-called Pompadorian style ceremony — which is to walk three laps around a table — years ago, which is exactly what D.J. and Silvio have just done by walking three laps around the kitchen table, and seeing D.J. married in any way at her age is not pleasant for Danny, who wants the procedure reversed as soon as possible, and Becky feels the same way about Jesse and Elena. After the procedures are reversed, Jesse proposes to Becky, and for a second time, Jesse and Becky are engaged to be married, only this time, for real!
