Mary-Kate Olsen Misses Emmy Cut

July 3, 2008 by Erin Balser

Sadly, Mary-Kate Olsen won’t be nominated for an Emmy this year. While she was on the long list for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, she didn’t make the cut. The original 41 entrants were cut down to 11 after the first round of voting. The top 11 then must submit a video for members of the academy to review.

A lot of older, more seasoned actresses were selected including Edie Falco, Elaine Stritch, Carrie Fisher, Polly Bergen, Shirley Knight and Kathryn Joosten.

However, MK has no need to worry! With her role on Samantha Who? coming up, it looks like she’ll have lots of opportunities for Emmy nods in the future!

Mary-Kate Olsen’s Emmy Competition

June 15, 2008 by Erin Balser

Mary-Kate Olsen is on the list for an Emmy nomination in the “Best Guest Actress in a Comedy” category. The nominations are still in the long-list form and there are 39 competitors all together. Mary-Kate has entered for her work in the episode “Grasshopper.” “Grasshopper” is the episode where MK’s character Tara first meets Silas at the old folks’ Bingo game, then they hang out together in the park.

Submitting “Grasshopper” as her episode (which isn’t official until if/when she makes the top ten) makes a lot of sense. It’s the episode where she got the most screen time and it introduces her character and the role she will play in the show–as Silas’s love interest, the personification of Magestic, and as a drug user (and eventual dealer).

Here are her scenes from this episode below:

I can see MK making the top ten because her guest appearance was very buzzed about and she did appear in eight episodes in a fifteen episode season. Britney Spears is also getting buzz, but she only appeared in two episodes and played a far less central part of the storylines.

We find out the top ten on July 19. To understand how the entire Emmy process works, check out this great post at Cultural Learnings.

The complete list of contenders in MK’s category are below the jump. Who do you think will make the top ten?

Mary-Kate Olsen in Emmy Race!

May 5, 2008 by Erin Balser

According to the LA Times, Showtime has submitted Mary-Kate Olsen as their choice for Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Tara Lindman on Weeds.

We all remember–she played a Jesus-loving pot-smoking gal who was Silas’s new love interest. She appeared in 10 of the 15 episodes of the third season.

However, this doesn’t mean a nomination is in the bag for MK. After the initial nominations, there are two rounds of voting. The first round is just a popular vote by actors who are members in the academy. If she makes the top ten, she then must submit a sample episode for a judging panel.

Good luck MK!

For those interested, Season three of Weeds comes out on DVD on June 3.

Mary-Louise Parker Doesn’t Like Someone

December 31, 2007 by Erin Balser

mary-kate mary-louiseThere’s a report on the internet about Mary-Louise Parker complaining about a ‘Weeds’ cast member, saying that they “were lacking talent, and had a sense of entitlement.”

For some reason, other gossip sites have taken this to mean she was complaining about Mary-Kate Olsen but there’s no proof of that anywhere!

The ‘Weeds’ cast is quite large, she could be talking about anyone.

Do you think she meant MK? Or someone else?

Thanks to jj for the tip!
