Mary-Kate and Ashley are Moguls in the Making

October 10, 2008 by Erin Balser

Forbes released a list of 10 Hollywood moguls in the making, that is, ten stars who they think are going to dominate Hollywood for years to come.

Chanel - PFW Fall Winter 2008/09 - Front Row & Arrival

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen come in at number six, thanks to their successful expansion from kiddie Wal-Mart wear to both contemporary fashion with Elizabeth and James and the Row. This fashion dominance coupled with the girls’ side projects like Influence, Weeds, The Wackness and more, Forbes thinks the Olsens have permanent staying power.

Topping MK and Ashley were Curtis Jackson, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Tyra Banks. Rounding out the rest of the list were Avril Lavigne, Pete Wentz and Jessica Simpson.

The list was chosen based on how strong the celebrities’ brand is, how many streams of income they have and their potential for growth. I think some of their picks are interesting–Pete Wentz?!–but I think it’s definitely a list MK and Ashley belong in!

More Mary-Kate and Ashley in London

October 8, 2008 by Erin Balser

mary-kate and ashley 2Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are working hard overseas! After a promotional trip to Paris for their fashion lines Elizabeth & James and The Row, the girls hopped over to London, where they held a launch for Elizabeth & James at Selfridges.

The guests included Alexa Chung, Henry Holland and Pixie Geldof and everyone dined on sushi and strawberry champange, according to Elle UK. (You can see a picture of that fivesome here.)

What do you think of MK’s over-the-knee boots? And Ashley’s bustier?

Fab Sugar has tons of photos from the launch, including pictures of the new collection!

Check them out here.

However, the girls weren’t in London for very long. Earlier today, they were spotted catching a flight back to NYC with none other than Gwyneth Paltrow! I love Gwyn’s oversized scarf. All three ladies looked chic, casual and lovely as they strolled through Heathrow airport.

See the photos here.

Rumor: Mary-Kate and Ashley Sisterly Love

October 6, 2008 by Erin Balser

According to the New York Post, all that fighting between Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is over. Both girls are in Paris for Fashion Week and the pair have been inseparable since arriving. They went to Regine, a nightclub, for a Fashion week party and source say the two were having a blast.

Chanel - PFW Fall Winter 2008/09 - Front Row & Arrival

“They arrived holding hands and were totally inseparable all night,” one source claimed. “They mostly stuck together but chatted a bit with Kate Bosworth, Jessica Stam and Lauren Davis.”

Since I didn’t really believe all the fighting rumors, I’m taking this “make-up” with a grain of salt. However, the girls haven’t been seen together very much, so it’s nice to hear about them hanging out together!

Robert Lee Morris “Happy” to Work with Mary-Kate and Ashley

October 4, 2008 by Erin Balser

The 25th Anniversary Of The Annual CFDA Fashion Awards - Green Room

Famed jewelry designer Robert Lee Morris is responsible for the new Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen jewelry line Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth & James. The line is currently on sale at Intermix features lots of cool cuffs, crosses and snakes. It’s very reflective of Mary-Kate’s and Ashley’s personal style and is true to Morris as a designer.

Morris chatted briefly with the National Jeweler Network about the collaboration. It’s a project he really enjoyed working on. He also appreciated the new lifeblood this collaobration will inject into his business, as he is now being exposed to a whole new generation of clients through MK and Ashley.

“I am very happy about the collaboration because it introduces my name to a whole new generation of hip kids, as well as savvy young dressers in their 20s and 30s,” Robert says. “The association simply highlights the genius of collaboration of brand names in a time of questionable economic times.”

The Morris/Olsen pairing is a brilliant one. It exposes Morris to a whole new legion of customers and it gives the Olsens credibility in the jewelry industry. And the final product is fantastic–I love this line!

Mary-Kate and Ashley’s October Hip Picks

October 4, 2008 by Erin Balser

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s hip picks have become a semi-regular thing lately. They don’t seem to be monthly anymore. However, there are hip picks for October!

Chanel - PFW Fall Winter 2008/09 - Arrivals

This month, MK’s fall fashion must is plaid. Ashley wants to go for a classic look, pairing lots of layers with a blazer. Their current handbags of the moment are the Chloe Paratay bag for Mary-Kate and the Accordion Devi Kroell for Ashley. Sleep is the best beauty tip MK can give you, whereas Ashley thinks their new Paper Me Pretty products are the way to go for instant on-the-go touch-ups!

If you thought you knew everything about the girls, you were wrong. This month, they reveal a secret passion. MK’s all about cooking and Ashley collects vintage fashion magazines. Finally, their fall footwear of choice is lace-up books for MK and peep toe booties for Ashley.

What do you think of these picks? Any real winners? Any you think are crazy?

PETA Still Hates Mary-Kate and Ashley

October 3, 2008 by Erin Balser

PETA is not giving up their campaign against Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Their most recent endeavour is giving away Trollsen Halloween masks, which I found out about thanks to Mollygood. The maskes are free and can be ordered directly from the PETA website.

Jenni Kayne Fall 2007 - Front Row

You have to place your order by October 12 to make sure you get them in time for Halloween. I ordered mine, just to see what they look like.

To complete the look, you need to wear loads of layers, plaid, scarves and carry giant Starbucks drinks and a cigarette.

While I know this campaign is mean spirited, I doubt it fazes MK and Ashley. It does, however, make me want to dress up as MK and Ashley as Hallowwn (the non-Troll versions of course!) but I’m probably too tall and too brunette to pull it off.

Rumor: There’s Boy Trouble for Mary-Kate and Ashley

October 2, 2008 by Erin Balser

Chanel - PFW Fall Winter 2008/09 - Front Row & Arrival

Don’t worry! Both Ashley’s relationship with actor Justin Bartha and Mary-Kate’s relationship with artist Nate Lowman are going strong. Ashley and Justin have been spotted on both coasts and in Las Vegas enjoying each other’s company, and MK and Nate are currently hitting the Fashion week circuit in Europe.

However, Star is reporting that MK and Ash have a small boy problem on their hand–Nate and Justin can’t stand each other!

Justin thinks Nate is a flake, while Nate thinks Justin is stuck-up. MK and Ashley brought the boys together last month on a couple double dates and they apparently butted heads all night, arguing about everything.

“All their discussions end up in arguments,” Star’s source claims. “Justin and Nate just don’t see eye-to-eye on anything.”

While I don’t take anything Star says seriously, I can see strong personality differences between Justin and Nate. That doesn’t mean they hate each other though!

Mary-Kate and Ashley to Design Shoe Collection

September 24, 2008 by Erin Balser

Elle UK is reporting that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have signed a deal with shoe icon Steve Madden to produce a line of footwear.

Chanel - PFW Fall Winter 2008/09 - Arrivals

Both MK and Ashley will serve as co-creative directors for the line, unlike their fashion lines, where Ashley controls the Row and MK controls Elizabeth & James.

The line is expected to hit Steve Madden stores early next year.

Elle is the only place I’ve seen this reported. I really hope it’s true! I’d love to see what kinds of footwear the girls come up with!

Rumor: Mary-Kate and Ashley Fighting Over Fashion Lines

September 18, 2008 by Erin Balser

The big tabloid story about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen this week is that Ashley has asked Mary-Kate to step back from her professional duties at their high-end line The Row until her personal life is more together.

The 25th Anniversary Of The Annual CFDA Fashion Awards - Green Room

“Ashley really wants to be a respected businesswoman and be taken seriously,” a source tells In Touch. “MK does too, but she hasn’t been willing to give up her lifestyle and act like an adult for their job.”

The source goes on to say that while they conceived The Row together, it’s become increasingly difficult for Ashley to deal with MK’s personal life and how it affects their work. Supposedly, MK will turn solely to Elizabeth & James–the line MK was more involved in than Ashley anyways.

From the beginning, MK and Ashley have been up-front with the fact that The Row is more Ashley’s project and Elizabeth & James is more MK’s. They’ve also been upfront with the fact that they are growing apart as they grow older–not a big deal. I think this is In Touch’s way to try to make magazine sales out of nothing.

What do you think?

You Can Choose Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Song of the Week!

September 17, 2008 by Erin Balser

I love the Song of the Week feature Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have on their website. It’s fun knowing what the girls listen to. However, they now want to get their fans involved so they can share their favorite music by letting you choose the Song of the Week.

Chanel - PFW Fall Winter 2008/09 - Front Row & Arrival

It’s easy. All you have to do is leave a comment here with your song pick. If your song is chosen, your name and song will be posted on the site for all to see!

There’s a few rules about what kinds of songs are eligible, so be sure to read them before making your selection!
