Mary-Kate Olsen is “Really Sweet”

October 13, 2008 by Erin Balser

TV Guide sat down with Samantha Who? star Melissa McCarthy to talk about the upcoming season of their show. (The second season premiere is tonight!)

Disney And ABC's

You may remember Melissa as Sookie on the Gilmore Girls. She was wonderful on that show. I’ve only caught a few episodes of Samantha Who?, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Melissa promises that this season will be tons of fun and there’s lots of exciting guests stars showing up--including Mary-Kate Olsen!

Melissa says that MK is “really sweet” and promises that “she did a good job with the part.” MK plays a reformed bad girl Natalie that comes into Samantha’s life and stirs things up!

MK’s episode of Samantha Who? airs on November 10 on ABC. It’s a ways away yet, but I’m going to liveblog the episode here. Be sure to join me!

August 29, 2008 by Erin Balser

Mary-Kate Olsen has been doing a lot of press lately. This week, Pop Sugar UK caught up with her as she chatted about The Wackness.

As we know, Mary-Kate is seriously pursuing acting now. However, her years as a child star didn’t exactly spawn this new-found passion.

“I was never challenged when it came to acting when I was younger and I sort of just did whatever was given to me without asking questions,” she said to Pop Sugar. “I didn’t really understand why I enjoyed it or why I did it and I guess I wasn’t quite sure about it anymore. I made the decision to take acting seriously after high school. When I was in my Freshman year at college (at NYU) I took some acting classes and found that I fell in love with acting again.”

The interview is all about the film, what it was like to work with Ben Kingsley and Jonthan Levine and how she feels about her character, Union.

The Wackness premieres in the UK on August 29.

Movies.ie Interviews Mary-Kate Olsen

August 24, 2008 by Erin Balser

In honor of the Irish premiere of The Wackness, starring Ben Kingsley, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby and Mary-Kate Olsen, Movies.ie interviewed Mary-Kate about her experience filming the movie. They chat about working with Ben Kingsley, MK’s infamous kissing scene, being constantly followed by the paparazzi, and where she sees her career going.

I love this quote about her professional limits. When asked what MK would and would not do for her career:

“I’m never going on the cover of Maxim - at all!” she said. “I only go along with what I am comfortable with.”

There isn’t anything new in the interview, but it’s good to see that Mary-Kate is dedicated to the marketing of the film. She’s serious about her acting career and tirelessly working to promote herself and her movies will only do her good.

Excerpts from Mary-Kate Olsen’s Elle Interview

August 6, 2008 by Erin Balser

Elle UK posted some sneak peek excerpts of their interview with Mary-Kate Olsen on their website. She “loves playing dress-up” and considers Edie Sedgwick and Brigitte Bardot to be her current fashion icons.

She also comments on how fashion is perceived differently by the fashion industry itself and by the tabloid magazines who often call her a fashion disaster.

The excerpt is very brief, but should tide you over until you can swipe a copy off newsstands now!

Mary-Kate Olsen in V Magazine

There’s a short piece and a great photo of Mary-Kate Olsen in the summer issue of V Magazine. It’s another promotional piece for her movie The Wackness. MK has done so much press for this film, you’d think she was the star!

Even though the article is really brief, I love how humble Mary-Kate is and how serious about acting she comes across as.

“I don’t think I’ll ever have that extreme confidence [to watch myself onscreen]. I criticize myself and know there’s no changing what’s done once the film is finished, so why torture myself? I’ll do my thing and I hope that people can appreciate my art.”

However, Mary-Kate wasn’t so lucky in avoiding seeing her performance in The Wackness, she had to stay in the theatre when it premiered at the Sundance film festival, but “thank god everyone loved the film.”

Mk also seems to be really appreciative of her current career and how it challenges her creatively. I can only hope she continues to make strong, engaging films and continues to love acting.

June 28, 2008 by Erin Balser

Mary-Kate Olsen’s press junket for The Wackness continues as The Wall Street Journal published an interview with her today. She talks about The Wackness, her character Union, and her upcoming book she co-authored with Ashley.

It’s a very brief interview, but MK does offer some sage business advice in it:

“Listen, and don’t act on impulse.”

Mary-Kate Olsen Promotes The Wackness

June 13, 2008 by Erin Balser

mary-kate olsen the wacknessThe Independent published an interview with Mary-Kate Olsen today, it’s part of the promotional campaign for The Wackness.

It does explain how MK became involved with The Wackness. The Wall Street Journal reported thatshe had originally auditioned for the role of Stephanie, but here she merely mentions she auditioned:

“I read the script and really enjoyed it. I auditioned and I got the part,” she told the paper. “I go through the same process pretty much every time, and then I met with Jonathan. He is such a great guy and a very talented director. I had seen All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, I thought it was done really well and I was excited about working with him.”

The article also talks about her and Ashley’s changing relationship and their current, diverging career paths.

The most interesting part of the article, however, is her response to a question about her battle with anorexia:

“I’ve never spoken about that. It’s never been accepted or denied,” she said.

What do you think that means?
