Mary-Kate Olsen at the Costume Institute Gala
May 5, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen opted for period glamour as she donned Lacroix at last night’s Costume Institute Gala. The dress, adorned in metallic lace and silver-embroidered bustier-basque, was definitely a bold move and I think MK pulled it off.

This year’s theme was “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion”, which celebrated the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit of the same name. The exhibit celebrates the role of the model in fashion, as a model, a muse and more. It’s supposed to be spectacular, so if you’re in New York any time soon, be sure to check it out.

MK and Ash opted for very different looks this year. Whose do you like better? Whose would you be more inclined to wear? And why didn’t Nate come?

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen at Art of Elysium
May 4, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen both looked smashing at the Art of Elysium presents Bright Lights New City event at the Jane in New York city on May 1st. The party featured a performance by Santigold and saw guests such as Vanessa Traina, Ciara, Milla Jovovich, Agyness Deyn and Eva Mendes rocking out for a good cause.

The event was a New York City first for the Hollywood-based charity. The Art of Elysium connects artists and musicians with children battling serious diseases and gives them an opportunity to learn about and explore different creative outlets. The evening was co-hosted by Joy Bryant and raised a lot of money for a worth cause.

MK looked stunning in a menswear tuxedo jacket, original booties and a pink snakeskin clutch. The clutch matched boyfriend Nate Lowman’s pink and purple tie-dyed shirt! Ashley opted for a more casual, yet more classic look with black jeans, a white tank and a grey sweater. I’m so happy to see Ashley out and about again, I’ve missed her!

Mary-Kate Olsen at Tribeca Film Festival Awards
May 1, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen did some jury duty yesterday as she presented at the Tribeca Film Festival Awards Night party. Mary-Kate was joined on stage by Debra Messing and the two of them unveiled the winner for the category they judged, Best Narrative Short.
The 2009 winner of Best Narrative Short was The North Road (La route du Nord),, a film by Carlos Chahine from France.
“We ultimately chose the winner for its poetic, truthful and unsentimental portrait of an exile’s return home to deal with his father’s death 20 years earlier,” the jury said in a statement. “The director, Carlos Chahine, portrays the absurdities and contradictions of how we deal with grief through humor, freshness and subtlety.”
MK was very vocal in the press about how honored and pleased she was to be a jury member. I hope she thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
Lots of great films, filmmakers and actors were honored at the ceremony last night. You can see a complete list of winners here. The film festival continues until May 3rd.
Mary-Kate Olsen at the Women’s Filmmaker Brunch
April 30, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen was one of several celebrities and Tribeca Film Festival jurors who came out this afternoon for the Women’s Filmmaker Brunch. The event, which was held at City Hall in NYC, celebrated women in film and women filmmakers. Other attendees included Debra Messing, Julianna Margulies and Parker Posey.
MK looked great in her leather jacket, black booties and hot pink paneled skirt. I’m loving the bursts of color she’s been wearing recently. She chose purple for the Matthew Williamson for H&M launch party earlier this week. The simple no-fuss makeup and hair cap the look of perfectly.
I love that MK is a Tribeca Film Festival juror! She’s been out and about so much lately. I only wish I could say the same for Ashley. Ash has been laying really low in Los Angeles these past few days
Mary-Kate Olsen at Matthew Williamson for H&M Party
April 29, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen looked stunning as she arrived at the party for the Matthew Williamson for H&M launch party. The party was held at The Majesty Yacht Cornucopia which docked at Pier 17 in New York City.
Matthew Williamson designed a capsule collection for H&M, following in the footsteps of other designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney. A smaller, spring collection debuted at H&M stores worldwide on April 21st and sold out in minutes. A larger summer collection will debut on May 14th and it is expected to stay in stores for a longer period of time.
Mary-Kate was wearing a belt from the Summer Collection, pairing it with a striking purple blazer and a body conscious one-shouldered dress. I love the look! MK has been making some daring style choices for the red carpet lately and it’s really paying off.
Other celebs in attendence were Alexis Bledel, Helena Christensen, Daria Werbowy and more. All were rocking pieces from the collection.
I don’t have access to these images, but MK was seen out and about in New York yesterday and Ashley was spotted at the LAX airport! See the images here.
USA Today Talks to Mary-Kate Olsen
April 25, 2009 by Erin Balser
USA Today had the opportunity to talk to Mary-Kate Olsen about being on the Tribeca Film Festival jury, her favorite places to shop in New York, what’s next for Elizabeth & James, and why she now prefers New York to Los Angles.
MK played with high and low fashion with her look for the evening, telling the paper that her outfit was Nina Ricci and TopShop. “I decided to support a little bit of everyone,” she said.
Mary-Kate has been really enjoying living in New York. In March, when she was the Interview cover girl, she said she made the move to NYC “emotionally” about a year ago. She loves it and even calls NYC special and magical.
There’s something magical about New York and the seasons and watching it change,” she said.
The interview itself is very brief, but it’s fun to read. Check it out for yourself here.

Mary-Kate Olsen at Chanel & Tribeca Dinner: Departures
April 25, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen left the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival dinner at the Odeon on Thursday night after a late and eventful evening. She walked the red carpet, chatted with the media and then celebrated the ninth annual Tribeca Film Festival with other jury members, filmmakers, actors and more.
MK left the event with pal Bradley Cooper, who she also attended the Whatever Works after party with. I wonder how and when these two became friends.
I love the full length coat MK is wearing. Has it been cold in New York lately; her coat looks very warm!
MK has a busy week ahead of her, as she has to watch all the narrative short entries multiple times and pick her favorites. Being a juror for the Tribeca Film Festival sounds like it’s quite a bit of work!

Mary-Kate Olsen looked stunning as she walked the red carpet of the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival dinner on Thursday night. he event was held at the Odeon in New York City and tons of stars came to out to support the growing film festival.
The Tribeca Film Festival is in its ninth season and has become one of the most important film festivals in North America and possibly the world. It does a great job of showcasing eclectic and moving films that celebrate the spirit of New York City.
Mary-Kate is sitting on this year’s panel, as she is a jury member for the Narrative Short category. Sitting on that panel with her are Thomas Haden Church, James Franco, Mary Harron, and Debra Messing.
She looks amazing here! I still hate how she sucks in her cheeks at red carpet events, but other than that, I think this look is a winner.
Mary-Kate Olsen at Chanel & Tribeca Dinner: Video

Mary-Kate Olsen looked flawless at the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival celebration dinner on Thursday night. I love the hair, the earrings, the make-up, the dress, the shoes, all of it. It’s on of MK’s strongest red carpet appearances in a long time!
The dinner was to celebrate and officially open the ninth annual Tribeca Film Festival. There were tons of stars in attendance, including Adrien Brody, Robert De Niro, Diane Kruger, Poppy Delevigne, Alexis Bledel, Molly Shannon, and loads more.
Here is a video of MK arriving at the event and walking the red carpet. The red carpet experience must be so bizarre - all those people yelling at you and all those cameras flashing in your face. Mary-Kate handled it like a pro!
Mary-Kate is stunned and honored to be a jury member for this year’s festival. She’s on the panel for the narrative short category and is taking the role very seriously.
“I wish there was a class. It is a huge honor to be a part of it and I was asked to be a part of it,” she said at the event. “I have been watching the movies and just started. I don’t really know what we do or what is going to happen yet. I am just seeing how the week starts. I just got my pamphlet this morning. I have already watched all of the shorts. This is fun.”
I’m glad she’s enjoying the process. It would be really interesting to be a part of the panel who decides the winners of such prestigious prizes. I’m glad that MK is taking it seriously and working hard at it, but also enjoying herself in the process!
