Mary-Kate Olsen Involved in Top 5 Celebrity Scandal
December 13, 2008 by Erin Balser
The Examiner named their top five celebrity scandals of 2008. Coming in at #2 was Mary-Kate Olsen’s mysterious involvement in the aftermath of Heath Ledger’s death. It was scandalous because it’s still unknown why the masseuse called Mary-Kate before calling 911 and why MK didn’t think to call 911 herself.
The other scandals of 2008?
#5 Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend getting arrested for money laundering
#4 Audrina Patridge accusing Lauren Conrad of hooking up with Justin-Bobby.
#3 Miley Cyrus’s near-nude photos in Vanity Fair
And the number 1 scandal of 2008?
#1 Britney Spear’s rocky year and trip to the hospital in early 2008
What I don’t understand is how the Audrina/Lauren conflict made it so high. It was a silly spat between a girl who takes herself way too seriously (Lauren) and a girl who is too dumb to know better (Audrina). I like these girls and I like The Hills, but this was a silly rumor started by someone who wanted to make it on tv and it worked. The fact these two couldn’t put that into perspective irks me.
As for MK being on the list, I understand it, but it’s more mysterious and not so much scandulous. All the police involved clearly stated no wrong-doing was done and that both MK and the masseuse were looking out for Heath’s best interested. Just because we are interested in the lives of celebrities doesnt mean we have the right to know everything.
What do you think of this list? What do you think was the biggest scandal of 2008?
Heath Ledger’s Insurance Company Wants to Talk to Mary-Kate Olsen
September 30, 2008 by Erin Balser
According to the New York Post, Heath Ledger’s insurance company is refusing to pay up because he died under “suspicious circumstances.” Additionally, they want to talk to Mary-Kate Olsen to better understand his death.
Since Heath’s entire estate is being willed to his daughter Matilda, a lawyer representing her estate is suing ReliaStar Life Insurance Co for their inappropriate actions.
This whole story is quite sad. A little girl lost her father, his death was ruled accidental, but the insurance company is holding out. As for speaking to Mary-Kate–if the federal investigators couldn’t get to her, I highly doubt an insurance company will.
Heath Ledger Investigation Closed
August 7, 2008 by Erin Balser
The latest news in the Heath Ledger investigation–the same investigation that’s getting Mary-Kate Olsen so much tabloid press lately–is that the investigation is now closed, as of yesterday.
“They’re closing down the case - at least their part of it,” a source told the NY Post.
Apparently, MK was issued a subpoena, but that was a long time ago. It’s news that’s no longer relevant. The DEA felt there was no point in continuing the investigation because there was no real target.
Case closed! MK must be relieved that this is all over.
Rumor: Mary-Kate Olsen Got Subpoenaed
August 6, 2008 by Erin Balser
Access Hollywood is claiming that the DEA has confirmed that they have issued a subpoena to Mary-Kate Olsen.
The subpoena would force MK to testify in front on a grand jury for the investigation into Heath Ledger’s death in January.
However, the subpoena and the request for immunity in no way correlates to MK’s involvement in any way. The investigators are just trying to get as much information about what happened as they can.
As for MK’s cautious approach to cooperating, Access Hollywood spoke to a legal expert who said that Mary-Kate was just following some good legal advice. There’s no way to infer what the DEA is seeking or how MK was involved with the case simply from standard legal proceedings, like subpoenas and requests for immunity.
The DEA is keeping their suspicions under wraps for now, but until we hear otherwise, we can breathe easy about Mary-Kate’s fate in regards to this case.
Now if only the tabloids would get off her back.
Mary-Kate Olsen’s Lawyer Speaks Out
August 4, 2008 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen’s lawyer has spoken out publicly about MK’s request for immunity regarding Heath Ledger’s death and its current investigation.
“Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger’s home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them,” Michael C. Miller said in a statement to People today. “Regarding the government’s investigation, at Ms. Olsen’s request, we have provided the government with relevant information including facts in the chronology of events surrounding Mr. Ledger’s death and the fact that Ms. Olsen does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed.”
As for MK’s role in Heath’s acquisition of drugs, Miller says he has no idea where the media got their information: “We don’t know the source of the information being quoted in the media regarding the government’s inquiry, but these descriptions are incomplete and inaccurate.”
The statement does not confirm or deny MK’s request for immunity. But if there’ no reason for concern, such a request isn’t needed. It’s such a shame that the tabloids are focusing on this–it really seems like they are making some huge about something small for no reason.
Rumor: Mary-Kate Olsen Demands Immunity
August 4, 2008 by Erin Balser
According to the New York Post, the investigators in charge of Heath Ledger’s death are still keen to talk to Mary-Kate Olsen about the mysterious phone calls from the masseuse, but she refuses to do so unless the prosecution will give her immunity.
Based on the article, it doesn’t sound like MK is in trouble–the feds just want as complete a picture about Heath’s drug use and the day he died as possible. No other potential witness has refused to speak to the investigators, and they’ve talked to everyone from the paramedics to the doctors to Michelle Williams to the housekeeper and masseuse.
Mary-Kate’s lawyer refused to comment on the matter, saying “We are not going to comment on whether there is a criminal investigation.”
While this rumor may not be true, I think refusing to cooperate when you’re not being charged or investigated with anything makes things look fishier than they are. All of Heath’s drugs were prescription, except OxyContin, but they’ve already ruled his death accidental. And MK was in LA.
What do you think? Should Mary-Kate cooperate? Or is it fair for her to exercise this right?
Rumor: Mary-Kate Olsen Leaves The Dark Knight
July 31, 2008 by Erin Balser
Life & Style is reporting that Mary-Kate Olsen tried to go to a screening of Heath Ledger’s last film The Dark Night in Los Angeles.
She snuck in with a few friends through the back doors and tried to sit unnoticed in the last row. But people noticed her and between that and watching her friend Heath on screen, it was too much for MK.
“It got to be too much for her,” their source claims. “She wanted to go unnoticed, but people recognized her and started whispering. She felt really weird.”
It got to be so overwhelming that MK actually left the screening early in the movie.
While there’s no proof to this story, I can see it happening. It would be really tough to watch your friend’s last film on-screen while at the same time being subjected to the judgment of others in the studio.
Rumor: Mary-Kate Olsen Still Dealing With Heath Ledger’s Death
July 27, 2008 by Erin Balser
This week, British magazine Grazia is claiming that Mary-Kate confirmed to friends that she and Heath had a relationship and were “secret lovers.”
“I’m just completely shattered about Heath,” Mary-Kate apparently said to friends. “I loved him so much. We had this amazing connection and now he’s gone. I just can’t get over him.”
Their sources also claim that MK is upset with how the tabloids portrayed her as a villian throughout the whole ordeal. She feels she has no one to turn to, especially anyone who was close to Heath.
Why can’t tabloids just let this go? There isn’t any proof of a relationship and MK is clearly not talking. And why would it matter now? All uncovering a relationship would do is prove that MK’s grief must really run deep.
Grazia hits stands tomorrow if you want to read the article.

The Chicago Sun Times had a bit in ther gossip column about how Mary-Kate Olsen is still grieving over the death of her friend Heath Ledger. Not only did she lose a close friend, she’s racked with guilt about the bizarre phone calls that occured before 911 was called.
”It’s tough because Mary-Kate had strong feelings for Heath,” says their source. ”Plus, there was so much confusion with all those calls back and forth between Mary-Kate and that masseuse. Everyone involved feels guilty — because so much time was wasted before the paramedics were called.”
As for what MK and Heath’s relationship was at the time, the source says they were only friends, but that Mary-Kate wanted it to be much more.
I feel sorry for Mary-Kate. Losing a friend is always hard and having it analyzed in the news must make it that much harder.
On a semi-related note, has anyone seen the trailers for the new Batman film? It looks like Heath does a fantastic job.

The following is a cartoon video where it shows how Mary-Kate Olsen is responsible for the death of Heath Ledger. It’s not graphic or anything, but it’s a strange one, and I wanted to know what you thought!
