Mary-Kate Olsen’s Emmy Competition

June 15, 2008 by Erin Balser

Mary-Kate Olsen is on the list for an Emmy nomination in the “Best Guest Actress in a Comedy” category. The nominations are still in the long-list form and there are 39 competitors all together. Mary-Kate has entered for her work in the episode “Grasshopper.” “Grasshopper” is the episode where MK’s character Tara first meets Silas at the old folks’ Bingo game, then they hang out together in the park.

Submitting “Grasshopper” as her episode (which isn’t official until if/when she makes the top ten) makes a lot of sense. It’s the episode where she got the most screen time and it introduces her character and the role she will play in the show–as Silas’s love interest, the personification of Magestic, and as a drug user (and eventual dealer).

Here are her scenes from this episode below:

I can see MK making the top ten because her guest appearance was very buzzed about and she did appear in eight episodes in a fifteen episode season. Britney Spears is also getting buzz, but she only appeared in two episodes and played a far less central part of the storylines.

We find out the top ten on July 19. To understand how the entire Emmy process works, check out this great post at Cultural Learnings.

The complete list of contenders in MK’s category are below the jump. Who do you think will make the top ten?
