The Elizabeth & James Spring 2008 collection is now out. I think the photo shoot is fun, but it bugs me they have a girl smoking in it. Does smoking makes clothes more beautiful?

Thing is, lots of people smoke.
There’s no reason why the models shouldnt, it reflects something called reality.
What doesnt reflect reality however, is the fact that they are all very thin, and all of them are white. The smoking part is the last thing I’d react to.
On a different note, I love most of the outfits, but the 4th one is my favourite- I hadnt expected yellow, grey and blue shoes to look good
The shoes look like he black ones Ashley tends to wear, I wonder if they are part of the collection or not. I’d blow my budget for a pair of those in black!
i don’t smoke, but the thing is: seems like almost everyone else does. at least around my college.
maybe they should have kept if out of the shoot because a lot of girls look up to them and try to imitate. but again, they see the twins smoke too, so whatever.
is it just me or.. i always think they pick up kind of ugly models (no offense).
not impressed with the photos.
Actually I did not like them at all, they could have done better.
I love the orange dress Ashley wore at the launch.
are these real models? i don’t like them very much. they look old like in their 30s trying to be young. or is it the same girl? i’m talking about the first four at least. maybe ashley’s going for the ‘everyday girl’ look? anyway…the clothes are alright.

I like the clothes a lot but I I hate the fact that the model is smoking in a photo. I don’t get mad when I see the girls having a smoke(although I wish they quit smoking), because it’s their personnal choice. However, this is a clothes collection photoshoot so what’s the point of that girl smoking? I don’t get it. The clothes are fantastic though. MK and Ash did a great job.
these clothes are incredible. actually the photoshoot is equally amazing! the models look great but more importantly, the poses are really interesting and it totally looks like something that tillmans or jurgen teller would have shot!
I am beyond impressed.
luy–you raise an excellent point. i’d love to see more diversity in the models selected. not just in this collection, but in fashion in general.

MK back inthe swing of things now since Heath thing hanging with the usual NY suspects – derek blasberg etc – I guess if you keep a low profile long enough the nonsense passes. I still think its funny they don’t have any pics of her with BF nate lowman (he’s in this crowd) he’s been spotted with her since late October.

i think the clothes look great. not jaw dropping spectacular, but still pretty cool nontheless. and who cares if the models are smoking. i smoke. mka obviously do, and so do tons of other ppl. i know they’re icons but they can’t walk on eggshells just b/c some naive, weak minded person is going to imitate what they see.
