Entertainment Tonight’s Beastly Preview
June 22, 2009 by Erin Balser
Entertainment Tonight visited the Montreal set of Beatly last week to get an early peek at the modern day fairy tale. They talked to Vanessa Hudgens, who plays the beauty Lindy, Alex Pettyfer, who plays Kyle the beast and Mary-Kate, who plays Kendra the witch!
Mary-Kate says Kendra is a “witch-type” but everything she does is for the good. She’s a strong woman and knows what she wants.
Vanessa says filming the movie is a blast and that Mary-Kate is very sweet. MK has lots of nice things to say about Vanessa and Alex, calling them both great actors.
Beastly will premiere on July 30, 2010. Can you handle the year-long wait?

Mary-Kate Olsen Films Beastly
June 15, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen spent the past weekend in Montreal filming her latest movie, Beastly. Adapted from the YA novel of the same name, which in turn is adapted from the fairy tale Beauty & the Beat, the film also stars High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens.
Due to copyright issues, I cannot post the photos of MK filming here. However, you can check them out at Olsen Files. MK looked great ( and very witch-like) in her dramatic black coat and dark eye make-up.
Mary-Kate was also seen hanging out on set out of costume. She wore pink sunglasses and a grey sweater and hid her face from the paparazzi.
On Sunday afternoon, MK was spotted on a coffee run in downtown Montreal wearing a striped orange and grey sweater.
Beastly is expected to hit theatres in July 2010. It’s over a year away but I’m already excited to see Mary-Kate on the big screen again!

Beastly: The Book Behind the Movie
June 8, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate’s latest project, Beastly is based on the best-selling YA book by Alex Flinn of the same name. The book updates the traditional fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast and puts it in modern-day New York. The book is inspired by the many different tellings of Beauty and the Beast - not just the Disney version! - so it may be a bit different than we’re used to.
Kyle Kingsbury is the popular kid at school, who becomes cursed when he plays a practical joke on Kendra, a girl in his class. (Mary-Kate is playing Kendra). To get back at him, Kendra places a spell on Kyle - he will be turned into a beast and must find true love within two years or be a beast forever. He eventually convinces a burglar to bring his daughter to him in exchange for freedom and this girl is the beast’s last hope.
What makes the book unique is that it tells the story of Beauty and the Beast from the beast’s point of view. Beastly was well received by readers and critics alike, winning several YA awards and topping many reading lists.
Alex Flinn is a popular YA author who has written six books including Breathing Underwater, Nothing to Lose and Fade to Black.
Neil Patrick Harris has signed on to the movie to play Kyle’s blind tutor, Will. I’m getting more excited by this movie by the day. Neil atrick Harris and Mary-Kate Olsen in a movie together? Bring it on.
The movie is expected to be in theaters next summer.

Full House Movie in the Works?
June 5, 2009 by Erin Balser
John Stamos is working on an idea for a feature film version of Full House. The film wouldn’t be a reunion of the main cast and characters, however, it would take place during the first few years of the show and feature an all new cast.
“I’m working on a movie idea, but it wouldn’t be us playing us,” he told us. “I’m not 100% sure, but it would probably take place in the first few years” he told the New York Daily News. John has also been throwing out ideas for his dream cast - James Franco as Uncle Jesse, Steve Carell at Danny Tanner and Tracy Morgan as Joey Gladstone.
I do like the idea of a Full House movie, I simply can’t see it happening, nor do I see any of those actors participating. It’s possible John is working on something completely original that uses the same premise -a single dad of three girls asks his best friend and brother-in-law to move in and help - as a jumping point. But if this is the case, wouldn’t it a be a fresher movie if the association to Full House was downplayed or not mentioned at all?

Mary-Kate Olsen to Get Beastly with Vanessa Hudgens
June 4, 2009 by Erin Balser
Mary-Kate Olsen will join the cast of Beastly, a modern day take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, Variety reported today. Beastly is based on the Alex Flinn fantasy novel that moves the story of the Beast and Belle to modern day New York City.
The project, which is being put together by CBS films, will also star High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens as the fair maiden.
Mary-Kate’s role sounds pretty small. The tale starts when a spoiled rich kid dumps his date (played by MK). Mary-Kate is Kendra, the evil witch, who decides to punish the prince for scorning her. His punishment? A nasty curse that turns him into everything he hates. The only way to break the spell is to find true love.
Beastly will begin shooting on June 13th in Montreal, Canada. Also starring in the film is Alex Pettyfer, who plays the beast.
I think this will be a fun and different role for MK. It can’t be that large, because it’s filming the same time as her other project Meskada. It’s one of CBS’s first feature film projects so I’m excited to see how they adapt the book while still staying true to the fairy tale so many people know and love.

Mary-Kate Olsen to Star in New Film
May 30, 2009 by Erin Balser
Today, it was announced that the indie film Meskada will begin production on June 8th in Catskill, New York. Listed among the cast members? Our very own Mary-Kate Olsen!
Meskada follows Noah Cordin, a small town detective, who is attempting to solve a juvenile homicide that happened during a home burglary. The town rallies around the family of the deceased, but as the investigation reveals more and more truths about the town and it’s inhabitants, it becomes unclear as to who the victims are.
Also on the cast list are Penn Badgley of Gossip Girl; Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in the Twilight movies; Vincent D’Onofrio from Law & Order: Criminal Intent; and Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City.. The film is being backed by Aliquot Films, it will be the company’s second project. Their first was the acclaimed film Knucklehead.
Josh Sternfeld wrote and will direct the film. Josh is a relatively unknown writer and director, with his best known work being 2004’s Winter Solstice.
It sounds like an exciting and interesting project with a hip and stellar cast. I have no idea what sort of role MK has in the project, but I’m hoping more details are leaked soon!
They’re still looking for extras, if you’re in the New York area and ever wanted to be in a film with MK! All the details are here. They can’t pay you, but it would be an awesome experience!

Ugly Betty References Influence
March 20, 2009 by Erin Balser
This week’s episode of Ugly Betty did something pretty awesome - it referenced Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s fashion book Influence.
Influence came out in October 2008 and featured MK and Ashley interviewing several people who inspired their fashion choices, design aesthetic and overall style. It was a great book that not only provided insight into the mature young women Mary-Kate and Ashley have become, but was also an intimate and sophisticated set of interviews that showed a different side of fashion icons like Karl Lagerfeld, Lauren Hutton, Christian Louboutin and more.
This week’s episode of Ugly Betty is called “The Sex Issue” and it revolves around the first ever sex issue of Mode. The reference to influence is at the 4:40 mark. Wilhelmina Slater was apparently upset she wasn’t included in MK and Ashley’s book, so Mark makes arrangements for her to be in their next book, tenatively titled More Influence.
I really like Ugly Betty, but haven’t seen any of it this season! This clip was fun, I might have to start again.
Also, I can’t help but wonder if Mary-Kate and Ashley do have another book idea in the works, and if so, what it’s going to be about!

Mary-Kate Olsen looked stunning at the Independent Spirit Awards last night! I love her simple black dress and soft, romantic hair.
